Karol Urban recreates Vintage Plane Sounds for Military Channel

Karol Urban was challenged with recreating all vintage plane sounds in post for the Military Channel Series Showdown Air Combat.

“While neither the budget nor the time available to complete the project changed, the scope of work greatly increased due to the lack of production materials. I had the choice to either do some hunting and some research on engine styles and recreate in post the air combat scenes, or mix them like music videos.

Since the demographic included a large segment of retired vets who have a tendency to prefer music low, but who know the difference between a A6M Zero and an F4U Corsair by ear, I had my work cut out for me. In the end, this is an example of the power of sound design and mix. The show’s level of excitement and suspense were greatly increased due to just a little added effort.”
