We have a new addition to the Urban Audio house. We call him Sync. He’s a 3 month-old Sphinx & he is officially “adorable.”
The first night he stayed with us we wanted to make certain that he wasn’t overwhelmed with the new space (and knew where to poop), so we confined him to our bathroom. At about 3:00 AM he began to mew like he was tied in a burlap sack and floating down the Potomac. So we did what any good parent would do, we woke up and went in to comfort him by sticking a microphone in his face.

Our friend, Shaun Farley, runs DynamicInterference. For six months now he’s been hosting a monthly sound design challenge. It’s a fantastic contribution to the growing on-line community of sound editors and designers from all parts of the industry. Due to my schedule I had been unable to participate so far, but in the calm after the storm that is the year-end push, I found myself with enough time and energy to participate in this month’s challenge. Since I apparently helped bring rise to it’s theme, I thought it would be appropriate to take part.
Besides, who can’t use more Yeti screams?

A return to TIVA DC’s Peer Awards rewarded UAP’s Steve Urban with another award. This year Steve’s sound design work for National Geographic’s Bizarre Dino earned him a silver. The show covered over 14 different dinosaurs each with their own moment to shine. This meant a minimum of 14 different dinosaur vocalization tracks had to be created. Quite a lot of fun, quite a lot of work!

Sound design and mix is completed for a 20 minute sitcom pilot, behind-the-scenes reel, and promo for a production called “The Circle” that was brought to us by a young promising production company, Root Branch Productions. The story explores the struggles of a conservative Senator from Oklahoma who unknowingly moves to Dupont Circle, DC’s gay district. “The Circle” uses comedy, witty puns and anecdotes to push the line between politics, religion and human rights. Over time, this unique cast of characters will evolve despite their opposing views as they learn from each other simply by living together. The Circle is currently entering festivals.
