We have a new addition to the Urban Audio house. We call him Sync. He’s a 3 month-old Sphinx & he is officially “adorable.”
The first night he stayed with us we wanted to make certain that he wasn’t overwhelmed with the new space (and knew where to poop), so we confined him to our bathroom. At about 3:00 AM he began to mew like he was tied in a burlap sack and floating down the Potomac. So we did what any good parent would do, we woke up and went in to comfort him by sticking a microphone in his face.

We here at UAP have used Waves plug-ins since we were notching out our first frequencies. So when they teamed up with one of our favorite websites, designingsound.org, to put their first competition in place, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to take part.

Our friend, Shaun Farley, runs DynamicInterference. For six months now he’s been hosting a monthly sound design challenge. It’s a fantastic contribution to the growing on-line community of sound editors and designers from all parts of the industry. Due to my schedule I had been unable to participate so far, but in the calm after the storm that is the year-end push, I found myself with enough time and energy to participate in this month’s challenge. Since I apparently helped bring rise to it’s theme, I thought it would be appropriate to take part.
Besides, who can’t use more Yeti screams?

Delving into a new realm, Urban Audio Post has provided it’s first theatrical sound design for Banished? Productions’ Tactile Dinner @ Long View Gallery.
This dinner theater production inspired by F.T. Marinetti’s Futurist Cookbook made it’s original premiere at the 2009 DC Capital Fringe Festival. But for this newest installment Artistic Director, Carmen Wong wanted to turn the multi-sensory dining experience on it’s ear with a “Futurist” soundtrack. Delightfully, she turned to Urban Audio Post’s Karol Urban.

Karol Urban was challenged with recreating all vintage plane sounds in post for the Military Channel Series Showdown Air Combat.
Read More...“While neither the budget nor the time available to complete the project changed, the scope of work greatly increased due to the lack of production materials. I had the choice to either do some hunting and some research on engine styles and recreate in post the air combat scenes, or mix them like music videos.
